Braces & Invisalign

Awesome Smiles Dental

Braces

Dental braces are devices used to correct crowded or crooked teeth, or a misaligned jaw, known as malocclusion. Braces are made of metal or ceramic, wires, and bonding material that attaches them to your teeth. Success rates of braces vary depending on your age when treatment begins and what your treatment goals are.

At the first visit, our dentist will thoroughly examine your child's teeth, mouth, and jaw. As well as may take X-rays of the mouth and teeth to see how the teeth are positioned and whether any permanent teeth still need to come in. The second visit also may make a model (or impression) of your teeth by pressing a tray of gooey material into the top and bottom teeth. Our dentist will make your orthodontic plan within 4 weeks.

Invisalign

Invisalign is a fairly recent development in orthodontics. Developed by an American company in the late 1990’s, Invisalign has changed the smiles of over 1.5 million patients in 50 countries worldwide. The Invisalign system uses a custom-made series of aligners (Clear tray) made of a smooth, comfortable and virtually invisible plastic that you wear over your teeth. These aligners gradually and gently shift your teeth into place with no metal brackets or wires to tighten. Simply pop in a new set of aligners every 1-2 weeks until your treatment is complete.

What is the Invisalign process?

  • Step One: Invisalign Consultation with our dentist to discuss what you would like to achieve with your smile. Our Dentist will be able to advise if you are a suitable candidate for Invisalign. If you are, scanning of your teeth and sent off to Invisalign for processing.

  • Step Two: Invisalign Treatment plan

Based on your dentist’s treatment plan, the Invisalign team will show how your teeth will change during the program and what final results you can expect.

  • Step Three: Invisalign Aligners

Once your treatment plan has been agreed upon, the aligners are made by Invisalign. Aligners are generally worn for 2 weeks before you progress to the next stage. The number of aligners needed depends on the patient.

  • Step Four: Treatment process begins.

Invisalign aligners should be worn for around 20-22 hours per day – only removed to eat, drink or clean your teeth. Progress checks with your dentist are usually required every 4-6 weeks.

Depending on your smile, the program may take between 9 and 18 months to complete.
